a bit, talking to the top four congressional leaders. speaker boehner, nancy pelosi, mitch mcconnell, and harry reid. earlier today, the senate majority leader sounded frustrated with the republicans in congress. >> nothing can move forward unless speaker boehner and mitch mcconnell are willing to come up with a bipartisan plan to participate. speaker boehner is unwilling to negotiate. we have not heard a word since neither mcconnell. nothing has happened. >> i should note that senator reid was due for a news conference later this afternoon. that has since been canceled. perhaps the senate majority leader has decided to do his talking behind closed doors and hammer out a deal. greg: filled with metaphors, no doubt. what a republican saying about the status of the fiscal cliff negotiations? reporter: they have been pretty quiet so far. we know the speaker of the house and the republican leadership team in the house is due for a conference call with members that are still back in their home districts later this hour. we expect senate republican leader mitch mcconnell to be on the senat
. this meeting brings together all the key players. president obama, top leaders harry read and nancy pelosi and mitch mcconnell and him. it was only a short while ago that john boehner was called a dictator. with the deadline looming the goal appears to be to shield most american taxpayers from automatic tax increase. now, the president's already agreed to raise income taxes on americans earning more than $400,000. that's up from his $250,000 goal set in the campaign, and there's also an effort to extend jobless pen fits for americans out of work for six months or more. >> major, do we have any reason to believe that this time it is different? >> well, certainly. the deadline is real. the house is coming back into session on sunday. even is going to be here either to preside over america going over the fiscal cliff or last-minute very small deal that averted for a while and leaves more negotiations for the future. >> major garrett, thank you very much. general norman schwarzkopf, commander of the coalition for the gulf war died yesterday. he tricked and outflanked saddam hussein's forces in

on a call. i hope they conclude as we have concluded -- and i speak for leader pelosi and myself and all the democratic leadership -- that we must come back as soon as possible to work together to reach compromise, to ensure that we address the important legislation that is still pending in this congress, a congress which i believe has been the least productive, most confrontational, the least compromising congress in which i have served, and i have been here since 1981. the senate tomorrow will consider the sandy supplemental legislation. hopefully they will pass that tomorrow or by saturday. certainly, the house of representatives needs to address that supplemental to give relief to those that were savaged by sandy in the worst storm that has hit the northeast perhaps in history. the violence against women act passed senate overwhelmingly, something that we could work on today. the farm bill expires on december 31. milk prices will spike substantially if that bill is left to expire. mr. cantor indicated that would be addressed before we left here at the end of the 112th congress. that
